Kendrapada: Five flood management projects have been completed in Cuttack district with central assistance of Rs 11.67 crore under the Flood Management and Border Areas Programme (FMBAP), Union minister of state for Jal Shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, informed Rajya Sabha on Monday.Replying to a question by Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray, Choudhary said the projects were aimed at protecting the district from recurrent floods caused by the Mahanadi river.The FMBAP was launched in 2019 following the merger of two existing schemes — the Flood Management Programme (FMP) and the River Management Activities and Works Related to Border Areas (RMBA). The centrally sponsored scheme provides financial assistance for flood control, anti-erosion measures, drainage development and coastal protection works in vulnerable areas.The minister said several flood-control initiatives have also been undertaken in Cuttack under other schemes, including the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), with financial support from Odisha govt.
