Dhubri: Repeated crocodile sightings in Kokrajhar’s Longa River have sparked fear among riverside residents.Several residents have reportedly spotted crocodiles in the river near the bridge south of Dotma market over the past few days. Witnesses said three crocodiles were seen in the area.The sightings have raised concerns among people who regularly cross the river, often two to four times a day, while taking their cattle out to graze. Residents from both banks also use the river for bathing and other daily activities.They have urged the forest department to rescue the crocodiles and relocate them to a safe habitat. They also sought increased surveillance and safety advisories until the situation is brought under control.“The crocodiles have been spotted repeatedly in the river, and people living along the banks are now worried about their safety. Since many villagers have to cross the river and use it for their daily activities, the authorities should take immediate steps to monitor the situation and ensure that the crocodiles are safely rescued and relocated,” said resident Dhananjay Barman.Fakiragram forest range ranger Samrat Minj told TOI that the department was monitoring the situation.
