Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested in a police encounter in Pratapgarh on Thursday night. The criminal, identified as Dawloo Verma, sustained bullet injury and was admitted to the district hospital for treatment. A country-made pistol of 0.315 bore, one used and one unused cartridge, and looted jewellery was recovered from his possession.Police said a joint team of Aspurdevsara police and SOG was conducting routine checks near Saifabad Road when they noticed a suspicious man on a motorcycle. The cops signalled him to stop, but he tried to escape. However, on being surrounded by the police, he opened fire. The cops retaliated injuring Dawloo.Police said Dawloo, a resident of Kandhai , has two criminal cases pending against him in the district. His accomplice identified as Govind Singh of Kotwali was already arrested.
