Nagpur: The local crime branch (LCB) of Nagpur rural police busted a cricket betting racket operating in Saoner, arresting two persons for gambling on a ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match.Acting on a tip-off, the LCB team raided a spot near the first bus stop on Saoner to Telgaon Road on February 18 and caught Pratik Banait (27), a resident of Bazar Chowk, Saoner, accepting bets via mobile phones on the India vs Netherlands match.
Upon questioning, Pratik said he was assisting another co-accused, Sandeep Sawal from Saoner, who was running the illegal betting operation, said police. Cops seized smartphones worth 55,000, cash 1,000, and other materials totalling 56,005. A case was registered by Saoner police under Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.
