Patna: In a major crackdown on human trafficking and crimes against vulnerable groups, Bihar Police rescued 427 victims and arrested 116 traffickers, including 35 women, during the statewide campaign “Naya Savera 2.0” from April 1 to April 30, 2026.Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, ADG (weaker section) Amit Kumar Jain said the drive focused on protecting women, children, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, senior citizens, transgender persons and minorities. A total of 82 cases were registered. Among those rescued were 115 minor girls and 217 minors, including victims from West Bengal, Haryana, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and one from Nepal. Repatriation has begun.“The campaign targeted multiple forms of trafficking and exploitation. One bonded labour case was registered in which 46 minor children were rescued. In child labour cases, 61 FIRs were registered and 193 children rescued. Action was also taken against sexual exploitation and illegal orchestra groups, with 20 cases registered, 140 victims rescued and several arrests,” Jain said.SPs of Rohtas and Araria will be honoured for their performance. Jain said the campaign builds on the 2025 drive, which saw 112 rescues and 50 arrests.Cases related to atrocities against SC/ST declined from 5,010 at the end of 2025 to 4,870 by Feb 2026. On women’s safety, the “Abhaya Brigade” took preventive action against 405 youths between Jan and March, with 11 FIRs registered. The home department is procuring 1,500 scooters for women personnel.Jain said 855 women helpdesks now handle grievances of senior citizens and transgender persons. Anti-human trafficking units will operate from women police stations under DSPs (special crime).Training of 1,171 personnel boosted entries of missing children on the Mission Vatsalya portal from 3,190 to 8,681. Police also traced 62 juveniles over six months, while counselling cells resolved 1,022 disputes. A state-level training on domestic violence will be held on May 12.
