Lucknow: The transport department along with traffic police on Saturday concluded a two-day drive against vehicles fitted with modified silencers, hooters, sirens, and multi-toned horns that cause noise pollution. The drive was carried out in compliance with the orders from the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad high court,.During the operation, nine vehicles were seized, and challans were issued to 33 vehicles fitted with modified silencers.Additionally, owners of around 20 spare-parts shops on Quinton road, Bisheshwanath road and Capper road near Lalbagh were formally informed about the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and asked to attend a meeting at the RTO office on Apr 20.“The garage, workshop or outlets selling or installing modified silencers, hooters can face penalties up to one year imprisonment or a fine of Rs 1 lakh, while vehicle owners may be fined up to Rs 10,000,” said Lucknow divisional transport officer enforcement Prabhat Pandey.The action follows directions issued in a public interest litigation, in which the High Court expressed concern over rising noise pollution and instructed strict enforcement against offenders as well as sellers and installers of such devices.
