BENGALURU: An owner of cows from the city has been booked for “Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation” after his livestock created a traffic jam on Outer Ring Road, Marathhalli. The cow owner-cum-milkman Santosh E, 40, will have to appear before a local court where he will have to pay a fine to get the case closed. The case was registered by the jurisdictional Airport Traffic Police Station after they received multiple complaints.“We were regularly getting complaints about cows standing in the middle of the road on Outer Ring Road near Kalamandir junction in Marathhalli and disturbing the traffic. Also, professionals heading to office were posting the pictures and videos of cows standing in the middle of the road on social media,” a senior police officer said.On the morning of August 10, cops received the complaint again and a staffer, Nagendra N, reached the spot.“I spotted around 8-10 cows at different spots in the ORR. Standing or walking in the middle of the road, they were disturbing the traffic. On inspecting, we discovered that the cows belonged to Santosh. We called him immediately and Santosh took away the cows. However, we told him that this time, we are just booking the case. If the incident repeats, we will seize the cows,” police said.“In a few days, we will submit the charge sheet and at that time, Santosh will have to appear and pay the fine decided by the court,” he said.In the last week of June, police registered an FIR against unidentified owners of livestock after a herd of cows disrupted traffic in the middle of Market Circle in KR Market. They not only disturbed the traffic but endangered commuters near SJP Road and surrounding areas. There were repeated incidents where commuters met with an accident as the cows, after fighting each other, would suddenly rush to the road or hit a passing vehicle. Also, there were incidents where shop owners/assistants, trying to shoo away the cows, were attacked by them. Then, senior police officers warned that they would start booking cases against owners of the cows that come on to the roads in the city.
