Mysuru: A city court has convicted a drug peddler along with two of his associates and sentenced them to 12 years in jail in connection with a 2024 case, which is one of the highest prison sentences given to the peddlers in the recent past, cops stated.Commissioner of police Seema Latkar informed that Javeed Ahmad and two of his associates Syed Mohammed Noorulla and Saddam Hussain were arrested for possession of 51g of MDMA/synthetic drug in Mandi Mohalla by a CCB team in 2024. All three have been awarded 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and have been fined Rs 1.25 lakh each by VII additional district and sessions court.City police said it would send a strong message to those dealing in banned drugs.The accused were booked under Section 22 (c) of NDPS Act in 2024. The minimum prison sentence under the provision is 10 years, which may extend up to 20 years, with a fine of at least Rs 1 lakh which can go up to Rs 2 lakh.An officer attached to CCB police said Javeed is a kingpin of an illegal drug racket and has a connection with drug dealers in Bengaluru. The CCB team succeeded in securing the conviction of all three accused by building proper evidence against them. This will send a strong message and deter those involved in drug dealing, the officer stated.Another case is pending against Javeed, who was recently arrested for possessing 100g of synthetic drugs while he was out on bail, the officer stated.
