Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested an assistant clerk posted in the appeals department of the City Civil and Sessions Court at Bhadra here after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.The accused, identified as Ashok Patel, allegedly demanded the bribe in connection with proceedings related to a court commissioner in a civil dispute over a common compound wall between the complainant and his neighbour.According to the ACB, the dispute began after the complainant served a notice on the neighbour seeking removal of an allegedly illegal compound wall. In response, the neighbour filed a civil suit, following which Patel was allegedly acting as the court commissioner in the matter.The complainant alleged that Patel demanded Rs 10,000 to ensure a favourable outcome in the proceedings. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.After verifying the allegations, the ACB laid a trap near Meladi Mata Temple at Dharati Circle in Naranpura on Friday. Patel was allegedly caught while accepting the entire bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. The currency notes marked by the ACB as part of the trap, were recovered from Patel.The ACB registered a case against Patel under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and initiated further investigation into the matter, including whether any other individuals were involved in the case.
