Hyderabad: A couple’s timely intervention saved a seven-year-old girl from an alleged sexual assault in Borabanda. They also overpowered the 60-year-old accused and handed him over to the police.According to the Hyderabad police, the accused, an autorickshaw driver, allegedly lured the girl by offering her ₹20 while she was playing on the road. He then took her inside his autorickshaw, which was parked in an isolated area.A couple, identified as K. Ramesh and Mavulamma, noticed the accused’s suspicious behaviour and intervened immediately, rescuing the child safely. They alerted the police by calling Dial 100, following which personnel from the Borabanda police station reached the spot.The girl was shifted to a hospital for medical examination, while the accused was taken into custody and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He was later formally arrested.Recognising the couple’s courage and presence of mind, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar felicitated them on Saturday.Emphasising the importance of public vigilance, the Commissioner said, “To curb such offences, public alertness is as important as police vigilance. Every citizen must act with social responsibility and stay aware of their surroundings. If anyone notices suspicious people or unusual activities, they should immediately alert the police by calling Dial 100. The exemplary courage and presence of mind shown by Ramesh and Mavulamma in saving the young girl is an inspiration to everyone.“
