Tragedy struck in Khagaria district when a couple, Rupesh Kumar and Manas Devi, made a heartbreaking decision to jump into the Bagmati river from Dumri Ghat bridge amidst a heated argument. Bystanders reported that they jumped from different sides of the bridge, plunging into the waters below.

Patna: A couple jumped into the Bagmati river from the Dumri Ghat bridge in Khagaria district on Thursday evening following a heated argument. The victims, identified as Rupesh Kumar and his wife Manas Devi, both residents of Telihar, are yet to be traced despite an extensive search operation by police and divers.According to eyewitnesses, the couple argued on the bridge before jumping into the river from opposite ends. The strong currents made rescue efforts difficult.

A large number of locals gathered at the spot. Upon receiving information, police teams from Beldaur and Chautham stations reached the spot, managed the crowd and traffic, and launched a search operation with the help of divers. However, the couple remained untraceable till the filing of this report.Station house officer of Chautham police station, Ajeet Kumar, said, “One of them jumped from the east-end of the bridge while the other jumped from the west-end. The rescue operation will again continue on Friday.”
