Times News NetworkKanpur: A case involving the death of a couple under suspicious circumstances came to light on Tuesday afternoon in a rented house in Barra-7 under the Barra police station area, after police found the husband hanging from a noose inside a room and the wife’s body lying on the floor.Police reached the spot after receiving information and found the room closed from inside. A forensic team was called, evidence was collected and a detailed investigation began.In the preliminary investigation, the deceased were identified as 36-year-old Saurabh Savita, son of Naresh Savita, and his wife Rani Savita (30). Saurabh was a resident of Kalka Purwa (Bhimsen) village under the Sachendi police station area.During questioning, the landlord and neighbours told the police that Saurabh and Rani came to live on rent in house number SS-186 in Barra-07 just four days earlier, on Saturday.At around 3 pm on Tuesday, neighbours grew suspicious when there was no movement in the room for a long time and the door remained locked from inside. They looked through a window, saw the scene inside and informed police on Dial 112.Later, the field unit of the Forensic Science Laboratory was called to the spot. The forensic team got the door opened and conducted an inspection, collecting fingerprints, samples of items kept in the room, rope-dupatta and other physical evidence.Police also took the couple’s mobile phones into custody from the scene and examined mobile call details and WhatsApp chats to determine who they spoke to just before the incident and whether there was tension in the family.Police said the case appeared, at first glance, to be murder followed by suicide after domestic discord or a mutual dispute, but they were not ruling out any possibility.DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said it would be fully clear only from the post-mortem report whether there were any serious external injury marks on the wife’s body. Police said, it will also be investigated whether the husband first murdered his wife by strangling her or poisoning her and then hanged himself, or whether there was some other reason behind the deaths.
