Lucknow: A couple has been arrested for cheating BJP MLA from Sultanpur Sadar, Vinod Singh, by promising to secure approvals from the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) for the construction of warehouses, police said on Sunday.The accused, Shashank Pandey and his wife, Soumya Pandey, were arrested in Hazratganj on Oct 25. According to the complaint, Pandey gained the legislator’s confidence by claiming that his brother was an IAS officer posted in Delhi and had connections with the CWC chairperson.Pandey assured Singh that the required approvals could be secured through his brother’s intervention and took money on that pretext. When the approvals did not materialise even after four to five months, the legislator began suspecting fraud.The matter came to light after Pandey sent Singh a purported no-objection certificate (NOC) on CWC letterhead on June 2. The document was subsequently questioned and allegedly found to be forged.
