Nagpur: Elected corporators have returned to Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Tree Authority committee after nearly four years, with the civic administration reconstituting the statutory panel following the end of the administrator’s rule, reports Proshun Chakraborty.The committee, constituted by NMC’s garden department under Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, will be headed by municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar. Seven corporators have been inducted as members so far.The corporator members are Pradip Pohane (Prabhag 24), Rekha Nimje (20), Vishakha Mohod (35), Vinay Dani (15), Sushma Chaudhary (1) and Suhas Nanwatkar (17).Environmentalist Kaustav Chatterjee has been retained as the lone non-govt member. The Tree Authority is empowered to scrutinise applications for tree felling, monitor compensatory plantation, recommend measures for conservation of city’s tree canopy.
