Bengaluru: Bengaluru South and Central city corporations have stepped up preparations for Census 2027, focusing on extensive staff training, structured supervision, and coordinated execution ahead of the first phase of the exercise, scheduled from April 16 to May 15.The first phase of the census, including house listing and housing census, began on April 1 and will continue up to Sept. Households can submit details online through self-enumeration between April 1 and April 15. Citizens can complete the self-enumeration process using a mobile phone or computer through the web portal till April 15. The process can be completed in 10-15 minutes, a release from Central corporation stated.Bengaluru Central commissioner Rajendra Cholan emphasised the need for seamless coordination across departments and directed officials to function as a unified team to avoid errors. Six training centres have been identified across assembly constituencies, where enumerators will be trained between April 6 and 8. Each centre will be overseen by teams led by revenue officers to ensure effective supervision.Bengaluru South commissioner and principal census officer KN Ramesh said 4,678 enumerators and 798 supervisors have been appointed for the exercise. “Training will be conducted across 16 centres during the same period, with the schedules already communicated,” he added.Both corporations have made training attendance mandatory, warning of strict action against absentee staff, including criminal cases, FIRs, suspension, and service breaks.Last week, Bengaluru North City Corporation also held a preparatory meeting, where commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar directed officials to ensure comprehensive readiness, emphasising proper training, clarity of roles, and diligent execution of duties for the census.
