Nagpur: Alert police personnel on Thursday rescued a 29-year-old lovelorn man who tried to commit suicide before Vande Bharat on the tracks under the Narendra Nagar flyover and handed him over to his family.Acting on information received during patrolling, constable Rupesh Sabalkar and head constable Nitin Tonde from Beltarodi police acted swiftly and pulled the man to safety before a train could approach. “We tried to console him but the man didn’t cooperate, also had a scuffled with us and tried to flee,” said Sabalkar.The man later confided that he was heartbroken due to a failed love affair and had sunk into depression. “The man said he was determined to die by suicide,” said the cop.“The police personnel counselled him on the spot and explained importance of seeking help from family and professionals during emotional crises,” said senior inspector Ritesh Aher of Beltarodi police station.Later, the cops escorted the man to his residence in Rajshri Nagar. The family expressed gratitude to the police and said the man would be taken to an expert for mental health guidance.
