Guwahati: Police questioned Congress leader Pawan Khera at the Crime Branch in Guwahati for the second consecutive day in connection with a forgery and criminal case filed against him by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.While talking to the media outside the Crime Branch police station at Panbazar after the interrogation, Khera said he was asked to appear before the investigating officer again on May 25.Refusing to divulge information about the interrogation, Khera said, “An inquiry is underway. Questions are being asked, and answers to those questions are being given. I have been asked to appear again on May 25, and being a law-abiding and responsible citizen of the country, I will cooperate with the investigation.”Meanwhile, CM Sarma, while talking to the media after offering his prayers at the Kamakhya temple on Thursday, took a jibe at Khera by saying that “Assam’s Peda’s taste is good.”“I am confident that with the blessings of Mahamaya Maa Kamakhya, our state will go forward in the next 5 years. Assam’s Peda’s taste is good,” he added.Khera on Apr 6, in a press conference in New Delhi, accused Riniki of holding passports of the UAE, Egypt and Antigua and Barbuda. He had also accused the Sarma family of having assets in foreign nations. Following this, Riniki lodged a complaint at the Crime Branch police station in Guwahati.The charges against Khera include making false statements in connection with an election, cheating, forgery, use of forged documents as genuine, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and defamation.The Sarma family has strongly denied these claims, terming the documents “AI-generated fabrications” circulated by Pakistani social media groups.
