Cuttack: Police on Thursday arrested one of the two notorious criminals from Bihar, who escaped from the high-security Choudwar circle jail on Oct 3 last year. The arrested accused has been identified as Raja Sahani of Begusarai district in Bihar, who was caught from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand after nearly six months of intensive investigation and multi-state tracking.Sahani, along with co-accused Madhukant Rana, had executed a daring jailbreak by cutting through the cell grills and scaling a 22-ft-high boundary wall using ropes made up of blankets, an incident that had raised serious security concerns. Both accused were facing charges of double murder and armed robbery. Rana was arrested from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh in Feb.Deputy commissioner of police (Cuttack) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said the accused had been constantly on the move to evade arrest. “Raja Sahani frequently changed his locations, identities, and even occupations to avoid detection. He also stayed away from electronic devices to escape surveillance,” said Khilari.“Our teams conducted extensive raids and verification drives across multiple states, including Bihar, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. During this period, the accused was also involved in a robbery in Karnataka before shifting base again,” added Khilari.Police said probe is on to ascertain the accused’s activities when he was on the run and to identify any possible criminal network that may have assisted him.
