A gleaming copper kalasam crowns the temple vimaanam, highlighting traditional South Indian Hindu architecture against a clear sky.

Villupuram: Two copper kalasams, each about 1ft tall, were stolen by unidentified culprits from the century-old Arulmigu Sri Vadivambigai Samedha Chandramouleeswarar temple at Thiruvakkarai in Villupuram district.Police said miscreants targeted the vimana gopurams (tower domes) of the Vinayagar and Natarajar sub-shrines, adjacent to the main sanctum sanctorum.The temple’s temporary security guard noticed the missing kalasams during his rounds and alerted the temple executive officer, who lodged a complaint with the Vanur police station.Police registered a case, and are combing through CCTV footage from cameras in the area to trace the culprits.
