Hyderabad: A 51-year-old eatery worker was allegedly stabbed to death by a labourer in Bharat Nagar in the early hours of Wednesday. The accused, Baswaraj, is on the run and police launched a manhunt to nab him.The deceased, Movadi Shankar, 51, was head cook at an eatery, Famous Tea and Udipi Tiffins, in Bharat Nagar. He was staying in a rented house at Erragadda.Police said that while Shankar was walking from his house to the hotel around 4am on Wednesday, he was suddenly attacked by Baswaraj, a labourer from Erragadda, with a knife near a school in Bharat Nagar. After stabbing Shankar in the head, back and hands, the accused fled from the spot.Shankar walked for about 100 metres and collapsed in front of his hotel. His co-workers Suresh, Devraj and Srinath noticed him lying on the street with bleeding injuries and called ‘108′ ambulance. “We shifted him to Omni hospital in Kukatpally. En route, Shankar named Baswaraj of Erragadda as the assailant, claiming he was attacked near Rainbow School. While undergoing treatment, Shankar succumbed around 5.45am,” Suresh stated in his police complaint.Sanathnagar police said Baswaraj and Shankar were neighbours in the past and they had some personal enmity. “The reason for the murder can only be ascertained once we arrest Baswaraj. Our team launched a manhunt to nab him,” Sanathnagar inspector K Srinivasulu said.On Suresh’s complaint, police registered a case under Section 103(1) (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Baswaraj. Forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene, and police were also collecting CCTV footage from nearby places. The body was shifted for a post-mortem examination.
