Srinagar, Mar 11: The Consumer Confederation of India (CCI), in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), organized a Consumer Awareness Program at Sri Pratap College, Srinagar, on Wednesday as part of the ongoing Consumer Awareness Bharat Yatra aimed at promoting consumer rights and quality standards.
The program was addressed by Dr. Anant Sharma, popularly known as the Consumer Man of India and National Chairman of the Consumer Confederation of India, who highlighted the importance of consumer awareness and responsible purchasing.
He emphasized that informed consumers play a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the marketplace.
- Selvaraj, National Working President of CCI, also spoke on the occasion and stressed the need for collective efforts to strengthen consumer protection mechanisms across the country.
During the program, participants were sensitized about the role of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in ensuring product safety and quality through standardization and certification. The significance of quality certification marks such as the ISI Mark and Hallmark was explained to help consumers make informed choices.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of the college, who interacted with the speakers and shared their perspectives on consumer awareness.
Earlier, Umar Mukhtar, Resource Person at BIS–JKBO, welcomed the guests and participants. The program concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Umar Mukhtar, who highlighted the importance of BIS standardization and quality assurance in protecting consumer interests and ensuring that only safe and reliable products reach the market.
The Consumer Awareness Bharat Yatra, which began on December 24, 2025, from New Delhi on the occasion of National Consumer Day, aims to spread awareness across the country and will culminate on March 15, 2026, marking World Consumer Rights Day.
