Patna: A 32-year-old constable, posted at Sadar (Town) police station in Kishanganj, died after allegedly shooting himself with his service weapon on the police station premises on Sunday morning. Police said he had spoken to family members shortly before the incident and a probe was underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.The deceased was identified as Sameer Kumar, a resident of Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district.According to fellow constables, Sameer had dinner late on Saturday night and went to sleep. After waking up on Sunday morning, he spoke to his wife on the phone from the barrack. A friend of Sameer said, “Sameer was talking to his wife. He had said about 15 times that I will give up my life. By the time I reached him, he had shot himself.”Fellow constables claimed that an argument took place during the phone conversation, following which Sameer allegedly shot himself. They also said he had appeared disturbed for the past two to three days and had been having disputes with his wife. Police have not independently confirmed these claims.Sameer, a resident of Gangapur under Sultanganj police station area in Bhagalpur district, was first posted in Samastipur in 2015 and was later transferred to Madhubani, where he remained until 2025.He was transferred to Kishanganj in Aug 2025 and initially posted at the Police Lines. About six months ago, he was assigned to Dial 112 at Town police station.Kishanganj SP Santosh Kumar said, “At 8.15am, constable Sameer Kumar committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver. Before the incident, he had talked to his family members. After that, he took this step.”An FSL team examined the scene and collected evidence. The body was sent to Kishanganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. “The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the death of the constable,” the SP added.
