Lucknow: A 60-year-old woman from Ambedkar Nagar was allegedly robbed of her jewellery by a conman on the premises of Balrampur Hospital after he posed as a staffer and claimed her daughter sent him.According to an FIR registered at Wazirganj police station on Monday, complainant Dharamraji, wife of Mahendra Pratap and a resident of Ambedkar Nagar district, came to Lucknow on Feb 7 for medical treatment at the hospital, accompanied by her daughter Sita and son-in-law Vijay Kumar.
The police said that after undergoing an X-ray, Dharamraji was seated on the first floor of the OPD while her daughter went to the dispensary to collect medicines and her son-in-law went to consult a doctor regarding prescriptions. During this time, an unidentified man allegedly approached her, called out her daughter’s name and claimed that Sita sent him to escort her for a medical examination that required her signature. The man allegedly told her that he knew her daughter well.“When she called out for her daughter and received no response, she followed the man,” the copy of the FIR read. “Instead of taking her to a diagnostic room, he allegedly led her outside the main building and onto the roof of a structure near a garbage dump on the hospital’s premises.”There, he asked her to sit and wait, saying her daughter would arrive shortly. After some time, the man returned and allegedly told her that she would have to remove all her jewellery before undergoing the test, assuring her that it would be returned after the procedure. Trusting him, she handed over her ornaments. The man then fled with the jewellery, leaving her waiting on the rooftop. After waiting for a long time and realising that neither her daughter nor the man returned, she returned to the hospital and discovered she was cheated.SHO Wazirganj, Rajesh Kumar Tripathi, said an FIR under BNS Section 318(4) was registered and efforts were underway to identify the accused. “We are examining CCTV footage from the hospital premises and nearby areas,” he added.
