Dr Thokchom Radheshyam Singh and Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, both MLAs, were appointed as government spokespersons on July 14.
Congress leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, in a post on X, sought clarification from the state government on what he described as important constitutional and legal issues arising from the appointments. “The Government Order dated July 14, 2026, appointing two MLAs, who are not members of the Council of Ministers, as Government Spokespersons raises important constitutional and legal questions requiring public clarification,” he said.
Raising several points, he asked, “Under which provision of the Constitution of India, statute, statutory rule, executive instruction or any other valid source of law has the office of ‘Government Spokesperson’ been created?”
