Guwahati: Ahead of assembly polls, former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah resigned from the party on Monday.

However, senior Congress leaders rushed to his residence while Congress in-charge Bhanwar Jitendra Singh said Borah’s resignation won’t be accepted, adding that he has taken back his resignation. Later, Borah said, “I will talk to my family members and have sought time to rethink.

I will let my friends in Congress know about it.” Borah, who has been associated with Congress for nearly 32 years, said he had resigned to protect his self-respect. Borah said, “The Congress high command did not know many things happening here. I had to write to them. Today my party leaders came to me, so I discussed… I have sought one day’s time to think it over and tomorrow I will meet Jitendra Singh again to convey my decision.”
