Cars damaged after wall collapsed in Jambhulwadi, Pune

Pune: Eight four-wheelers, along with nine two-wheelers parked inside Samruddhi Lakeshore Society in Jambhulwadi, were damaged after the society’s compound wall collapsed around 2.30am on Sunday.No one was injured in the incident. The area has received heavy rainfall over the past two days.A resident, Amar Ingavle, told TOI, “I was sleeping when the watchman kept knocking on my door but since it was Sunday, I ignored it. I woke up around 7.30am and found my car completely buried under the collapsed compound wall.”Another resident said, “My scooter has been completely damaged. We tried to salvage it after the watchman raised the alarm. However, it was too late.”Firefighters from the Sinhagad Road and Katraj fire stations reached the spot with the necessary equipment and removed the iron framework of the parking shed that had fallen on the vehicles and cleared the debris from the site.The society has 135 flats, and vehicles were parked along the concrete compound wall. Construction work is currently underway on the adjacent plot.The local builder, who constructed the society building, told TOI, “We built the society in 2016, and development work is now underway on the adjacent plot. As part of that work, another compound wall was constructed above the society’s existing compound wall. Both compound walls collapsed. We do not know what caused them to cave in.”He added, “I started helping the residents as soon as I received the call.”In another incident on Sunday afternoon, an SUV and a car parked along the Pune-Mumbai highway in Wakdewadi were damaged after a tree fell on them.
