Mangaluru: Police have registered two separate cases following a complaint by a woman who alleged that she was followed by a former college mate and his friends while on her way to work. The accused youths, however, denied the allegations, and filed a counter-complaint, accusing members of an organisation of attempting to falsely implicate them. Police said both cases are under investigation and warned of legal action against those spreading misinformation about the incident.Police said that a woman from Puttur lodged a complaint at the women’s police station after she allegedly spotted her former college mate, Sohail, standing with a knife while she was on her way to work around 6.45 am on WednesdayAccording to the complaint, the woman believed that Sohail and four of his friends were following her in a vehicle, prompting her to approach police. Based on her complaint, a case was registered.During the investigation, the youths told police that they had purchased bread from a bakery and had borrowed a knife from the shop to spread cheese on it. They said one of them was carrying the knife back to the bakery to return it. They denied being involved in any criminal activity, and told police that they later proceeded to their gym as part of their daily routine.The youths subsequently filed a counter-complaint at the Puttur Town police station, alleging that despite knowing the facts, Murali Krishna Hamsatadka, along with two others associated with a religious organisation, had acted with malicious intent and attempted to have a false case registered against them through the woman. Police said both cases have been registered and are being investigated.
