Aurangabad: Serious questions have been raised over security arrangements inside the Aurangabad district jail after the complainant in a sensational child kidnapping and murder case alleged that he received death threats from the prison’s official telephone number.According to a written complaint submitted to the Aurangabad SP, Pramod Kumar Singh, a resident of village Mohri-Itwa under Tandwa police station area, alleged that he received two threatening calls on July 31 from prison phone. The caller allegedly warned him to withdraw the criminal case or face dire consequences.Pramod Singh is the father of a five-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped from his residence last month and later murdered. The case had triggered widespread public outrage in the district. During investigation, police arrested Dhansevak Ram, who is currently lodged in Aurangabad jail after allegedly confessing to his involvement in the crime.Jail superintendent Deepak Kumar acknowledged that the number belongs to the district jail. He said inmates are occasionally permitted to use the official phone only under exceptional or emergency circumstances. However, he added that an inquiry would be conducted to determine how an undertrial accused in a murder case could have allegedly used the facility to threaten the complainant.
