Kalyan: A passenger travelling a CSMT–Khopoli local train was injured in a knife attack after a thief attempted to snatch his mobile phone between Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar railway stations on Friday. According to officials, Joginder Singh Labana, a history-sheeter from the Ulhasnagar area, attempted to snatch Nitesh Kumar Shah’s phone in the moving train. When Shah resisted, Labana allegedly attacked him with a knife, leaving him with minor injuries, and fled. Shah, who runs a toy-selling business, was later treated for his injuries.A video of the incident later went viral on social media. Taking serious note of the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Kalyan launched an investigation and identified the accused through CCTV footage. Labana was arrested soon after and produced before a Kalyan court, which remanded him to police custody.
