Mangaluru: A review meeting on the Bharat Jodo Yuva Sangha (BJYS) scheme was held at the Mangaluru City Corporation’s Mangala auditorium on Monday, under the chairmanship of commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey.Addressing the meeting, Pandey instructed officials to expedite the registration process and ensure regular follow-up. He also directed them to provide young people with detailed information about the benefits of the scheme and create greater awareness.To improve outreach, officials were asked to contact former corporators and use electoral rolls, with the assistance of booth-level officers (BLOs), to identify and involve young people aged above 18 in the registration process.An official suggested that issuing circulars to the deputy directors of public instruction (DDPI), deputy directors of pre-university education (DDPU) and heads of degree colleges will help streamline the registration process. The commissioner agreed, and directed officials to prepare and issue the circulars. He also asked them to encourage educational institutions to actively participate in implementing the scheme.As the final registration process is expected to be completed by Aug 31 in accordance with the state govt’s directions, Pandey urged all stakeholders to complete the exercise within the stipulated deadline and work together for the successful implementation of the scheme.Officials from various corporation departments, including town planning and health and engineering, attended the meeting.Commissioner inspects development projectsMCC commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey, on Monday inspected ongoing and proposed development projects worth around Rs 7 crore at various locations in the city. Accompanied by officials from the engineering division, Pandey visited the Bejai–Pais Garden area and reviewed underground drainage (UGD) and concrete road works. He directed officials to check the quality of materials being used in the projects and visit the workshops supplying the materials to verify their quality. The commissioner directed officials to commence UGD works in the Bejai–Pais Garden and Aanegundi areas within the next 15 days. He also inspected the wet well system at Kodialguthu, and directed officials to take necessary measures to prevent sewage from mixing with the stormwater drain and polluting the Phalguni River.Later, Pandey assessed the possibility of widening the road near the Kadri Circuit House. He instructed officials to identify the advantages and challenges involved, and submit a report on the proposal. Engineers from the corporation were present during the inspections.
