Coimbatore: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan on Sunday said MPs from Tamil Nadu had shown their strength in Parliament by defeating the delimitation bill and vowed to fight for 33% reservation for women.Campaigning for DMK candidate V Senthilbalaji on Raja Street in Coimbatore South assembly constituency, Kamal said, “We showed our strength in Parliament and defeated the delimitation bill. It is my duty to bring 33% reservation for women and I will fight for it.” He said those speaking of destroying DMK had only one “owner” living in the northern part of the country, and that they were functioning based on that owner’s funds and brains. Kamal said the people of Coimbatore had the awareness to question the Union govt about not sanctioning metro rail project for the city. “While the Union govt cited the 2011 census as the reason for rejecting the project, it changed rules and regulations to sanction metro rail projects for Patna and Agra.” Referring to the previous local body elections, he said DMK and its allies had won 96 of the 100 wards in the city corporation, and credited Senthilbalaji for the victory. “Now, chief minister M K Stalin has assigned Senthilbalaji to contest in Coimbatore,” he said and expressed confidence that Coimbatore would create a new chapter in Tamil Nadu’s electoral history. “Coimbatore will become a DMK fort and create a new change in TN’s election history,” he said.
