Coimbatore: Coimbatore secured third place under the ‘Best District Panchayat’ category in the National Panchayat Awards 2025 (NPA-2025).A total of 42 panchayats from across the country have been selected, and the award ceremony is scheduled on June 3. Coimbatore is the only district selected for the award from Tamil Nadu. The awards are conferred under two categories, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) and the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP). Coimbatore district has been ranked third under the NDSPSVP category. The winning panchayat will receive financial incentives ranging from Rs ₹ 50lakh to ₹5crore, under the Incentivization of Panchayats (IoP) scheme. Coimbatore district will receive Rs 2 crore as financial incentives. Sanket Balwant Waghe, additional collector (Development), Coimbatore, said, “Unlike previous years, this is the first time that we are receiving the award for the district as a whole. Earlier, Keeranatham panchayat received the award under the Best Self-Sufficient Infrastructure category. One of our panchayats was also shortlisted for the DDUPSVP but did not make it to the final winners.” For three consecutive years, panchayats from Coimbatore district have been awarded the National Panchayat Awards.
