COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police conducted an intensive 24-hour special raid starting at 6pm on Friday here and arrested 28 people for possessing contrabands. The Coimbatore city police have been conducting a storming operation every Friday evening. The raid is targeted to curtail the drug movement and anti-social activities in the city. During the drive that began at 6pm on Friday and went on till 6pm on Saturday, police teams searched various places, including courier offices and parcel service godowns. Police seized two tonnes of banned tobacco products, 10 kg of ganja, 256 painkiller tablets, 1,230 syringes, a knife and Rs 50,000 in cash. Police registered 24 cases and arrested 28 people, including two history-sheeters, for possessing contraband.
