Coimbatore: In a scathing attack on DMK, former AIADMK minister S P Velumani on Saturday termed Coimbatore an impregnable fortress of AIADMK.Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters here, Velumani said shifting of DMK leader V Senthilbalaji’s base to Coimbatore wouldn’t make any difference to AIADMK’s prospects in the district in the upcoming election. Responding to a question on Senthilbalaji contesting from Coimbatore, Velumani said the identity of the candidate is irrelevant to his party. “It doesn’t matter who contests in Coimbatore. Under the leadership of Amma (Jayalalithaa) and our general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, we have brought unprecedented growth to this district.” He accused the DMK govt of neglecting the region and stalling vital infrastructure projects. He claimed that no major welfare schemes or developmental projects have been implemented in Coimbatore in the past five years. “There is a massive wave of dissatisfaction among the people against DMK. AIADMK’s deep-rooted influence in Kongu region remains unshaken despite DMK’s efforts. For Coimbatore to see return of mega-projects, AIADMK has to return to form govt in the state. The public is waiting for a change to bring back the governance of Edappadi K Palaniswamy,” he said.
