Chatra: The driver of a coal-laden truck was killed after his vehicle overturned near a bend on the Chatra-Gaya Main Road under Jori police station of the district on Friday. The accident, which took place in Sanghri Valley around 6 am, also led to a chain of collisions between several vehicles and caused a traffic congestion that lasted two hours. The deceased driver, identified as Aditya Rana (30), was a resident of Seram Pandariya village under Balumath police station limits in Latehar. Police suspected that Rana lost control of his truck near the bend. As the truck overturned, several vehicles behind it failed to apply their brakes on time and crashed into each other. The collisions left multiple vehicles damaged and caused a queue of vehicles on either side of the road for hours. Buses and ambulances also remained stranded in the congestion.“The driver was killed on the spot. Traffic was restored after two hours as it took cranes to remove the damaged vehicles,” Awadhesh Kumar Singh, the officer-in-charge of Chatra Sadar police station, said. Rana’s body was handed over to his family after postmortem examination at the Chatra sadar hospital. “Investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the accident,” the OC added.Last week, a bus from Bihar bound for Raigarh in Madhya Pradesh overturned at the valley. Several passengers were injured in the incident. Calling the frequent accidents a concern, Chatra MLA Janardan Paswan said he would seek a widening of the road passing through the valley and raise the demand in the state assembly.
