Gurgaon: A CNG cylinder fitted in a Tata dumper exploded while the vehicle was being refuelled at a BPCL CNG station on Surajkund Road in Faridabad Tuesday morning, injuring the dumper driver, his helper and a pump operator.However, a major mishap was averted as the blast was such that it uprooted the CNG dispensing machine and sent a part of the cylinder flying several metres away, a petrol pump operator said.The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and their condition stablised, police said.A police officer said that the dumper had four CNG cylinders, one of which exploded while CNG was being filled. The blast was heard several kilometres away, triggering panic in the surrounding areas.A commuter who rushed to the petrol pump hearing the loud noise said, “The cylinder had been thrown off far away due to the impact. There was smoke everywhere. We alerted the ambulance and took the injured to the hospital.” Another struck the CNG machine with such force that the unit was uprooted.Meanwhile, the police officer said that among the injured, the truck conductor sustained a head injury. The driver and the pump operator, who was standing near the dispensing machine, suffered leg injuries.Surajkund police reached the spot after receiving information and began examining the vehicle, cylinder and damaged dispensing unit to determine what caused the explosion. Police are also examining the condition of the other three cylinders and the vehicle’s CNG system as part of the investigation.
