Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) completed the casting of the final U-girder required for the Corridor-5 elevated section of its Phase-2 project. The final 19.5m-long U-girder for Adambakkam metro station was cast at a city casting yard, taking the total number of U-girders produced for the package to 824.According to CMRL, the 43-acre casting yard manufactured precast components required for the 13.1km elevated viaduct and associated stations on Corridor-5. A total of 5,836 precast elements were cast using around 1.2 lakh cubic metres of concrete.CMRL said the project involved automated station U-girder mould operations integrated with hydraulic systems for casting activities. The package also included casting U-girders ranging from 8.9m to 33.3m in length. The longest U-girder cast under the project weighed 225 tonnes.Officials from CMRL, consultant AEON and contractor L&T were present during the completion of the final U-girder casting.
