Aizawl: Mizoram’s main opposition party, Mizo National Front (MNF), on Monday accused CM Lalduhoma of reversing his positions on key issues and trying to shape the views of younger voters for political gain.Addressing an MNF meeting at the party headquarters, Mizo Hnam Run, in Aizawl, MNF legal board vice-chairperson Lalpianfela Chawngthu alleged that Lalduhoma’s recent remarks on the inner line permit (ILP), Article 371G of the Constitution and Mizo Peace Accord were inconsistent with his earlier positions.Chawngthu claimed the statements were intended to divert attention from allegations of corruption and mismanagement against the ruling party and state govt. He referred specifically to a controversy over the sale of land at Lengpui but did not provide details or evidence at the meeting, according to the account available. The MNF leader also alleged that Lalduhoma was seeking to influence Gen Z residents who had not witnessed the Mizo political movement. He urged CM to clarify or withdraw the statements and apologise.Chawngthu separately targeted Lalduhoma in his capacity as law minister, alleging that state govt was reluctant to establish a human rights commission. He also accused CM of advocating action outside the legal framework, describing it as a suggestion of “mob rule”.The available account, however, does not specify the remarks by Lalduhoma to which Chawngthu was responding.Speaking about Mizoram’s younger generation, the MNF leader said young people wanted accountable leadership and opposed corruption and favouritism.“Gen Z are no longer children. They have mature minds and are taking an active role,” he said.Drawing a parallel with the Mizo political movement, Chawngthu said MNF founder Laldenga and his colleagues had begun pursuing Mizoram’s political aspirations while still young. There was no immediate response from the chief minister or ruling Zoram People’s Movement to the allegations. Their comments should be added when received.
