Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Majhi on Wednesday expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for the smooth conduct of Rath Yatra, which concluded on Monday, praising the collective effort that ensured the festival passed off peacefully despite adverse weather conditions.Majhi lauded Odisha police for maintaining order and discipline throughout the nine‑day event. “The chief minister thanks all Jagannath devotees, servitors, govt officials, police, voluntary organizations, and everyone associated with this sacred occasion,” his office said in a statement.The chief minister noted that Puri witnessed an unprecedented congregation of devotees from the Rath Yatra on July 16 to the Niladri Bije on July 27. “Even amid heavy rains, servitors completed all rituals of Lord Jagannath with utmost devotion. Though there were minor delays due to the weather, every ritual — from Nabajouban Darshan to Niladri Bije — was carried out smoothly by the grace of Lord Jagannath,” Majhi said, thanking the servitors for their dedication.The chief minister’s office said Odisha police deployed more than 13,500 personnel to provide security and services to pilgrims. Majhi extended his gratitude to the force and praised the orderly conduct of devotees during the Rath Yatra, Suna Besha, and Niladri Bije. He also acknowledged the cooperation of servitors and seers of various mutts in facilitating the rituals.“The disciplined behaviour of devotees deserves appreciation. Their orderly participation ensured the festivities remained peaceful,” Majhi said.Highlighting the govt’s broader vision, Majhi said efforts are underway to transform Puri into a world‑class religious and tourist destination. Projects such as the proposed Jagannath international airport, Jagannath museum and research center, marine aquarium, and Shamuka project are being developed to enhance the city’s appeal. The govt also already declared Puri a municipal corporation, which, he said, will enable improved services for residents and visitors.Majhi’s commendation came amid mounting opposition criticism. The BJD and Congress have alleged lapses and mismanagement during the festival, claiming that two devotees died in stampede‑like situations on July 16 and one on July 24. The govt has denied the charge, insisting that rituals and crowd management were carried out without any disruption.
