Chennai: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Sunday launched Tamil Nadu’s National Pulse Polio Immunisation drive by administering oral polio vaccine drops to children at a govt Adi Dravidar Welfare Higher Secondary School in Pallavakkam. The state targeted vaccinating over 52.91 lakh children below the age of five through 43,051 immunisation booths set up across TN.The special immunisation campaign was conducted at govt primary health centres, hospitals, anganwadi centres, and schools. In addition, transit vaccination booths were set up at major bus terminals, railway stations, airports, toll plazas and check-posts.The immunisation booths functioned from 7am to 5pm. While vaccination was carried out at all designated booths on Sunday, transit booths were scheduled to continue administering polio drops on June 29 and 30. Children of migrant workers from other states were also covered under the drive, noted a press release.More than two lakh personnel, including healthcare workers, anganwadi staff, teachers and volunteers, were deployed across the state to ensure the smooth conduct of the campaign. Health minister K Arunraj, senior officials from the health department, Greater Chennai Corporation and the National Health Mission, attended the launch event.
