Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday expressed confidence in police protection following an online death threat.Abdul Mutaleb of Morigaon allegedly threatened in a comment during the livestream of Sarma’s Independence Day speech to kill him for Rs 1 crore. He has been arrested.“Even during the Ashirwad Yatra, there was an intelligence warning from Delhi that there was a severe threat to my life. In fact, at that point, the Intelligence Bureau had advised us to stop the Ashirwad Yatra and not proceed with it. So, I think this is not something new. Certain people are not happy with me, and obviously, I do face some kind of threat. But that is OK,” Sarma said.“Our police are capable of providing me security. I am not worried about it. Such threats may continue to emerge, but I have confidence in our police, and they will be able to ensure my security,” he added.BJP organised the Ashirwad Yatra in February-March ahead of the assembly elections.Police on Sunday arrested four people from Baralimari in Morigaon in connection with the threat. A local court remanded them in judicial custody.Police initially detained Mutaleb after noticing the comment. His father, brother and Rashidul Islam were subsequently arrested.
