Nagpur: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday ordered a high-level probe into the fire at Amravati District Women’s Hospital. He also announced 5 lakh financial assistance for each bereaved family and directed that injured infants be treated at govt expense.Expressing grief over the deaths, Fadnavis said, “The incident is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. We share the grief of their families.” He said the health administration had been directed to conduct a high-level inquiry and promised that “the strictest action will be taken” against those found responsible.Fadnavis also directed Amravati district administration to ensure that the injured babies receive treatment at govt expense.Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the tragedy had left him “deeply saddened”. “I pay my heartfelt tribute to the babies who lost their lives. I pray to God to give strength to their parents to bear this unbearable loss,” he said.Bawankule said injured infants were receiving medical assistance and that all facilities were being provided for their recovery. “Govt stands firmly with kin of the deceased infants,” he said.Bawankule added that he was in constant contact with the district administration and had issued necessary instructions to officials. “The administration is keeping a close watch,” he said. Deputy chief minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar expressed grief over the deaths and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured infants.
