Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday directed district collectors to ensure identification and allocation of land for 2,200 Godabarish Mishra Model Primary Schools by March 2027, while announcing a strict monitoring mechanism involving weekly reports from districts and monthly reviews by him to fast-track the flagship education project.Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, he asked collectors to personally monitor the progress of land identification and submit weekly reports to the school and mass education department. He said he would review the implementation status of the project every month.The state govt is implementing the Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School programme as a flagship initiative to strengthen primary education and establish world-class schools at the gram panchayat level in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the Right to Education Act, 2009.Officials informed the meeting that foundation stones have already been laid and construction work has commenced for 322 schools under the first phase of the programme. He directed the district administrations to expedite identification of land for the remaining schools so that construction activities can start without delay.Majhi also advised collectors to involve local MLAs in the land identification process to resolve local issues and speed up site finalisation. Emphasising the importance of the initiative, the chief minister said active involvement of district administrations would be crucial for achieving the target within the stipulated timeline. He asked officials to treat the project as a priority and ensure that the administrative machinery remains fully geared to complete the schools at the earliest.The state govt has made a budgetary provision of over Rs 2,200 crore for the project in the current financial year. The govt plans to establish a Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School in every gram panchayat across the state.School and mass education minister Nityananda Gond attended the meeting virtually. Chief secretary Anu Garg, development commissioner DK Singh, school and mass education secretary N Thirumala and OSEPA director Ananya Das were present, while district collectors joined the review meeting virtually.
