Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised global infrastructure manager Igneo Infrastructure Partners on its acquisition of Australian renewable energy company Green Squares Energy Pty Ltd, marking the launch of Igneo’s new distributed energy platform, Vertis Energy.

Nadia Kalic, Global Co-Head of Energy and Resources, said: “We’re proud to have advised on this transaction, which is a strong example of how the energy sector is evolving. While utility-scale renewables remain critical, we are seeing growing investment in distributed energy solutions that sit closer to the end user. The establishment of Vertis Energy and this strategic investment in Green Squares Energy signals a shift towards a more decentralised energy system, where businesses are becoming active participants in how energy is generated, stored and consumed.”

Nadia and Partner Philip Podzebenko led the deal team, supported by senior associates Lisa Jiang and Emily Yung; associates Henry Garing, Chantelle Masters, Vivian Lee and Patricia Veng; trainee solicitor Tobi Alao and graduate lawyer Jack North.

Partner Elizabeth Hundt-Russell, counsel Alexander Sorgese and associate Anjia Zhou supported on the financing workstream. Partner Elizabeth Richmond and graduate lawyer Ruby Murphy led the regulatory workstream and Partner Clancy King and senior associate Paul Bonjour advised on the employment aspects.
