Koraput: A Class X student who was allegedly stabbed by two youths near Bariniput under Jeypore Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district on Friday died at a hospital hours later. The deceased, Mahesh Bag, was a student of Upper Kolab Project High School. According to a complaint filed by his father, Murali Bag, the attack occurred around 50 metres from the school campus while Mahesh was returning home during the lunch break.Murali alleged that the accused, Riyan Hial and Abtak Hial, who are not students of the school, intercepted his son and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. Mahesh sustained a grievous abdominal injury before the accused fled the scene. “Local residents found my son lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to a private hospital in Jeypore. But he died during treatment,” Murali said.He said the accused brothers had earlier quarrelled with Mahesh over a trivial issue and suspected the attack was linked to the previous dispute. “We never imagined a minor altercation would end in such a tragedy,” he added. IIC, Jeypore Sadar police station, Sachindra Pradhan said a case has been registered and an investigation launched. “Efforts are on to trace and apprehend the two accused. The exact circumstances leading to the attack are being investigated,” he said.
