JAUNPUR: A Class 2 student at a government primary school in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district was left trapped inside a locked classroom for nearly 90 minutes after school staff inadvertently shut the room and left for the day, leading to the suspension of an assistant teacher responsible for the error, an official said on Sunday.District Basic Education Officer Sameer on Sunday suspended assistant teacher Krishna Kumari over the incident, which took place on Friday at a primary school in Banpurva under Pariyanv gram panchayat in Sirkoni block.The officer said the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Mungra Badshahpur has been asked to investigate the matter.The incident came to light after a video showing the child locked inside the classroom went viral on social media.The student was seen looking helpless and crying from behind the classroom window.According to officials, school staff had unknowingly left the child inside the classroom before locking the premises and leaving.Villagers who spotted the boy alerted the school authorities, who returned to the school around an hour-and-a-half later, unlocked the classroom and rescued him.The child’s parents had also reached the spot by then.Following the circulation of the video, the district basic education officer sought an immediate report from Sirkoni BEO Amresh Singh.The inquiry found that the student had indeed been locked inside the classroom and held assistant teacher Krishna Kumari responsible for the lapse.She was suspended with immediate effect.During the suspension period, Kumari will remain attached to the Upper Primary School in Pariyanv.Officials said the BEO has been directed to complete the inquiry in a fair and time-bound manner and submit a report.(With PTI inputs)
