NEW DELHI: Several protesters were detained from different parts of the New Delhi district on Monday as security agencies intensified efforts to prevent CJP’S ‘Chalo Sansad’ protestors from assembling and marching towards Parliament.According to sources, detentions were made from Mandi House, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street and other key locations where protesters attempted to gather despite heightened security and prohibitory orders, news agency PTI reported. At least seven protesters were detained near the Reserve Bank of India, located close to Parliament.Sources said those detained were shifted to different locations across the national capital, away from the protest site, to prevent them from regrouping and disrupting law and order.A source said the detainees would be released after being issued warnings.Police would also verify their antecedents to check whether any of those detained had previous criminal records.Security remained on high alert across the New Delhi district, with multi-layered barricading, heavy deployment of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel, and intensified vehicle checks at key intersections and border points.Several senior police officers, including joint commissioners of police, remained on the ground to oversee security arrangements as authorities kept a close watch to ensure protesters did not breach security barricades or proceed towards Parliament.(With agency inputs)
