NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has proposed closing entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations across the national capital and reducing train frequency at these stations ahead of protests scheduled for Saturday (October 10), according to an official communication.In a letter dated Thursday, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to make necessary arrangements at the identified stations in view of planned protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district. The letter cited the possibility of unruly crowd movement towards sensitive locations.The CJP has announced a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 over alleged “vote theft”.The proposed restrictions are scheduled to begin at 9 pm on Friday and continue on Saturday until the situation normalises.The 57 stations listed in the communication include are Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Seva Teerth (Udyog Bhawan), Mandi House, Bara Khamba Road, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, R.K. Ashram Marg, Jhandewalan, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, Shivaji Stadium, INA (both metro lines), Hauz Khas, Jor Bagh, Arjangarh, Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin, Lajpat Nagar, Jangpura, Ashram, Kalindi Kunj, Jasola, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Chawri Bazar, Jama Masjid, Karol Bagh, Rajendra Place, Vishwavidyalaya, Vidhan Sabha, Civil Lines, Kashmere Gate, Inderlok, G.T.B. Nagar, Kanhaiya Nagar, Netaji Subhash Palace, Azadpur, Adarsh Nagar, Jahangir Puri, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Shalimar Bagh, Seelampur, Maujpur, Jafrabad, Welcome, Yamuna Vihar, Khazuri Khas, Shahdara, Rithala, Rohini East and Rohini West.Delhi Police has requested DMRC to issue necessary directions to the concerned officers and staff to implement the proposed measures.The communication seeks precautionary arrangements in view of the planned protests. However, it does not confirm whether DMRC has approved or implemented the proposed restrictions.Meanwhile, CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke alleged that several activists had been detained ahead of the protest but said the march would continue.“Thousands of youngsters have been detained across country by the BJP Govt ahead of our October 10 protest. This intimidation is not going to work, Modi. The youth of this country are no longer scared of you. I’ll be landing in Delhi tomorrow and will march to Jantar Mantar, come what may,” he posted on X.(With Agency Inputs)
