Times News NetworkKanpur: As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city witnessed thunderstorms followed by rain on Tuesday evening, bringing relief to the residents from sultry weather conditions.The rain started around 7.20 pm and continued intermittently. According to weather experts at Chandra Shekhar Azad University, the rainfall was widespread in the city and 5.9 mm of rain had been recorded so far. Despite intermittent cloud cover and bright sunshine during the day, the residents continued to face sultry conditions. The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.3°C, almost unchanged from Monday, while the minimum temperature was 25.6°C, which was 2.3°C above normal. South-westerly winds blew across the city at a speed of 4.4 to 7.8 kmph but failed to provide much relief from the humidity. The maximum relative humidity was recorded at 85%.CSA weather expert SN Sunil Pandey forecast that cloud movement over the next five days may lead to localised thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and light rain or drizzle. Humid conditions are likely to persist whenever the sun comes out.The IMD, in its afternoon forecast, said light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and partly cloudy skies is likely across all districts of the Kanpur division–Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Auraiya, Kannauj and Farrukhabad–over the next 24 hours.According to the IMD’s Lucknow centre, monsoon activity will keep the region humid, while strong thunderstorms accompanied by rain may occur during the evening or night.For Kanpur Nagar, partly cloudy skies are expected during the day, with a 60-70% chance of rain accompanied by thunderstorms in one or two spells during the evening and night.
