Nagpur: The festival of Eid al-Fitr was celebrated with religious fervour across the city, as thousands from the Muslim community gathered at Eidgahs and open grounds to offer prayers and exchange greetings.A large congregation assembled at Jaffar Nagar Eidgah Ground, where prayers were led by Imam Rahmatullah of Jaffar Nagar Jama Masjid. The sermon emphasised on peace, communal harmony, and well-being, with special prayers offered for protection from diseases and global stability. Addressing the gathering, Rizwanur Rahman Khan, former state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra, urged the community to emulate the teachings of the Holy Quran and the life of Prophet Muhammad in daily life. He stressed that sincere adherence to faith and avoidance of unnecessary distractions would help overcome present challenges. Khwaja Izhar Ahmed, city president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Nagpur, also addressed the gathering. At Hyder Ali Ground, Maulana Abdullah Mazhiri highlighted the importance of compassion and called upon people to include the poor and needy in Eid celebrations. Similar sentiments were echoed at Lakadganj, where Majid Parekh urged devotees to carry forward the discipline and self-restraint practiced during Ramzan throughout the year.Former cabinet minister Anees Ahmed visited several parts of central Nagpur, extending greetings and appealing for brotherhood and harmony. Community programmes, including Eid Milan gatherings, were organised in various localities, fostering social bonding and inter-community goodwill.Celebrations were also marked by cultural and social events, with families and youth exchanging greetings and sharing traditional delicacies such as sheer khurma.
